Aksum University Council Discussed the new 10-Year (2020-2030) Strategic Plan of the University

After assessing the effectiveness of the previous five year strategic plan, a research team explored the SWOT analysis of the university that directs to the formulation of new 10-year strategic plan of Aksum University.

Aksum University President Gebreyesus Berhane (PhD) in his opening on 07 Oct 2020 stated that the strategic plan has developed based on the nationally set higher education standards and national policies and strategies.

Among the research team, Mewael Berhane (PhD) presented the new strategic plan to the university council pointing the university will concentrate on enhancing the quality and access of education, research and community services.

He added that the university will focus on internationalization and partnerships through joint education programs and research and technology transfer projects so as to standardize its all rounded human development endeavors and contributions towards social, economical and ecological improvements in the nation.

The strategic plan is classified in to four main strategic themes, namely, excellence in teaching-learning, research and technology transfer, community service and engagement as well as business development.

Members of the university council commented to focus on the relevance of education, infrastructural development and enhancement of service delivery among others.

Aksum University Vice President for Academic Affairs Kiros Guesh (PhD) explained that the formulation of strategic plan passed various steps that began from team setup up to SWOT analysis and strategic plan formulation since December 2019.

Aksum University President Dr. Gebreyesus Berhane (PhD) in his concluding remark underlined the need for the revision of the plan based on the comments from the university council.

He further stated that the university will shortly work to communicate the pillars of the strategic plan so as to create consistency among different hierarchies and stakeholders towards the triumph of the strategic plan.
